空調点検 | A/C Inspection

家で呑気にNBAの試合を観ていたら空調のリモコンの位置が変わっていることに気づいた。完全に忘れていたが、今日空調点検業者が来るというメールを先週もらっていた。

住人が家にいない場合、不動産屋が業者に鍵を渡して入室を許可する。私は知らない人間が土足で部屋に入ってくるのが吐きそうなくらい嫌なので普段はリモートワークにして奴らを迎え撃つのだが、今回は迂闊にも侵入を許してしまった。そして、それに気付いた時は相当取り乱してしまった。少なくとも今年一番取り乱した。知らないアメリカ人が土足でどこを歩いたのか分からないというのは恐怖でしかない。絨毯の上なんて本当に勘弁してほしい。取り乱した私は70%イソプロパノールを噴射して消毒しまくり、床のクリーナーで掃除しまくった。私自身潔癖症の症状を緩和したいのだが、アメリカに来て悪化しているかもしれない。

I was leisurely watching an NBA game at home when I noticed that the position of the air conditioning remote had changed. I had completely forgotten, but I received an email last week notifying me that an air conditioning inspection company would be coming today.

When the resident is not at home, the real estate agency gives the service provider a key to allow entry. I dislike the idea of strangers entering my home with their shoes on so much that I usually opt to work remotely and confront them, but this time, I carelessly allowed the intrusion. And when I realized it, I was quite upset—probably the most upset I've been all year. The thought of unknown Americans walking around my home with their shoes on is nothing short of terrifying. I really wish they would refrain from walking on the carpet. In my agitation, I sprayed 70% isopropyl alcohol everywhere for disinfection and cleaned the floors thoroughly with a floor cleaner. While I want to alleviate my symptoms of germaphobia, they might have worsened since coming to America.

雲助 | Kumosuke

しばらく日本に帰っていた。とても快適だったので、ブログを書く気にならなかった。いかにこのブログがアメリカの愚痴で成立しているか思い知った。

3月の下旬に浅草演芸ホールに行き8時間くらい入り浸って落語を聞いてきた。自分のために目当ての落語家の演目を記しておく。わからなかったものは後で調べた。ちなみに通常出番表に演目は書かれない。

春風亭一朝「牛ほめ」生で一朝懸命を拝聴。

柳家権太楼「代書屋」この日一番爆笑。

春風亭一之輔「長屋の花見」季節ネタ。この人のガヤガヤ系の話は秀逸。

五街道雲助「狸賽」一番お目当ての落語家。普段から(おそらく一番)よく聞いているので、初めて生で聞けて感激。シブい。

ちなみに落語はSpotifyで聞いている。音楽だと宣伝がウザいが落語は長いので宣伝が挟まっても許容できる。

時間の関係でトリの隅田川馬石師匠の話は聞けなかった。蜃気楼龍玉師匠もいたのに(演目は「ぞろぞろ」)、桃月庵だけ来ていなかった。いつか雲助一門会に行きたい。

I was back in Japan for a while. It was so comfortable that I didn't feel like writing a blog. I realized how much this blog relies on complaints about America.

In late March, I went to Asakusa Engei Hall and immersed myself in rakugo for about 8 hours. Here are the performances I saw, noting the titles for myself. I researched the titles I didn’t know later. By the way, the performance list usually doesn't include the titles of the acts.

Shunpuutei Iccho: "Ushihome" - Witnessing his favorite phrase “Iccho-kenmei” live.

Yanagiya Gontaro: "Daishoya" - The biggest laugh of the day.

Shunpuutei Ichinosuke: "Nagaya no Hanami" - Seasonal humor. His hustle-and-bustle storytelling is excellent.

Gokaido Kumosuke: "Tanusai" - My most anticipated rakugo performer. It was thrilling to hear him live for the first time. Quite impressive.

By the way, I listen to rakugo on Spotify. While ads can be annoying with music, they're tolerable during rakugo because it's longer.

Due to time constraints, I couldn't catch the performance by the headliner, Sumidagawa Baseki. Despite Shinkiro Ryugyoku being there (performing "Zorozoro"), Togetuan was absent. Someday, I'd like to attend a Kumosuke gathering.

続・ネッシー | Nessie, Continued

遠い異国の伝説の生き物をビールの名前に使うという発想は、考えてみたらキリンビールと同じだ。そうして商品の希少価値を高める戦略なのだろう。人間、考えることは皆同じだ。

Using a legendary creature from a distant land as the name of a beer is actually similar to what Kirin Beer does. It's a strategy to enhance the product's rarity value. It seems that humans all think alike when it comes to such ideas.

ネッシー | Nessie

NESSIEというオーストリア産のビールを見つけた。Since 1148と書いてある。相当古い。味はアンバーエールっぽくて炭酸がほぼ無い。炭酸が苦手な人には良いかもしれない。味は好みだった。それにしてもなぜオーストリアビールなのにネッシーなのだろう。ラベルにネッシーっぽいのが描かれているので由来はあのネッシーだろう。ネス湖はスコットランドにあるのだが。

NESSIEはBella Vistaというビール専門店で見つけた。ここには世界中の色々なビールが置かれていて、私にとってはパラダイスである。ただ、Bella Vistaは卸売店っぽいので6本売りが基本でバラ売りが稀なのはちょっと困る。

I found a beer called NESSIE, produced in Austria. It says "Since 1148" on the label, which is quite old. The taste is similar to amber ale and almost has no carbonation, which might be good for those who don't like carbonation. I liked the taste. However, I wonder why it's called NESSIE if it's an Austrian beer. There's a drawing resembling Nessie on the label, so it's likely named after the Loch Ness Monster. Loch Ness is actually in Scotland, not Austria.

I found NESSIE at a beer specialty store called Bella Vista. They have various beers from around the world, making it a paradise for me. However, Bella Vista seems more like a wholesale store, so they mainly sell beer in packs of six, which can be a bit inconvenient for individual purchases.

一瞬と永遠 | Moment and Eternity

アメリカ人はよく"One second"と言う。1秒待ってという意味だ。それでいて10分ぐらい待たされることがある。アメリカ人はよく"I’ll be right back"と言う。すぐ戻ると言う意味だ。それでいて永遠に戻ってこないことがある。もう何も言わなきゃいいのに。

Americans often say "One second." It means "Wait for a moment," but sometimes they make you wait for about ten minutes. Americans often say "I’ll be right back." It means they'll return soon, but sometimes they never come back. It's better if they don't say anything at all.

チキンラーメンの夢 | Dream of Chicken Ramen

夢を見た。夢を記憶できるタイプではないが、断片的に覚えていた。アジア系のスーパーマーケットでチキンラーメンを見つけた夢だった。実はアメリカのスーパーでチキンラーメンを見たことがない。不人気なのか規制でもあるのか。儚く悲しい夢だった。

I had a dream. I'm not the type who can remember dreams, but I remembered fragments of it. It was a dream where I found Chicken Ramen at an Asian supermarket. In reality, I've never seen Chicken Ramen in an American supermarket. Is it unpopular, or is there some kind of regulation? It was a fleeting and sad dream.

侵入者 | Intruder

オードリーのオールナイトニッポンというラジオ番組を毎週聴いている。そのラジオイベントが日曜日に東京ドームで開催されて、私はオンライン配信で見た。帰国も兼ねて現地参戦したかったが抽選に見事に外れ続けた。最初オードリーが東京ドームか、という感慨深さが込み上げてきたが、いつものラジオのようにダラダラトークしてくれて良かった。春日の新車にバレーボールをぶつけまくるのはめちゃくちゃ笑った。

ただ、ひとつ気持ち悪いシーンがあって、イベント中盤、ある女性ゲストがスタンド席から登場した時、背後から無関係な白髪のおじさんがニヤニヤしながら近づいてきて最終的にゲストの真後ろで変顔をしていた。このおじさんの行動にかなり恐怖を感じて、寝ても覚めても気分が悪い。ドームの階段は急なので後ろから押されたらかなり危ない。このおじさん、序盤に「まさかラジオ聴いたことないのに来た奴いないだろうな」というフリで威勢よく立ち上がって若林さんと絡んでいた人だと思う。「なんで来たの？」と聞かれて「JRで」と答えていた。野球日本代表のユニフォームを着ていたので見覚えがあった。ただの映りたがりだと思うが、すごく怖かった。面白かったシーンよりもあのおじさんのニコニコした顔を思い出してしまう。朝3時に起きて、本当に楽しみにしていたのに、この人のせいで後半そんなに楽しめなかった。ブルーレイ化するときはできればカットしてほしい。

I listen to the radio show "Audrey's All Night Nippon" every week. The radio event was held at Tokyo Dome on Sunday, and I watched it online. I wanted to attend in person as part of my return to Japan, but I kept losing in the lottery. At first, the feeling of Audrey being at Tokyo Dome was overwhelming, but I was glad they talked casually as they always do on the radio. I couldn't stop laughing when Wakabayashi kept hitting Kasuga’s new car with volleyballs.

However, there was one creepy scene. During the middle of the event, when a female guest appeared from the stands, an unrelated older man with white hair approached from behind, grinning creepily, and ended up making funny faces right behind the guest. I felt quite terrified by this man's actions, and I remain feeling bad even after a sleep/wake cycle. The steps in the Dome are steep, so it's quite dangerous to be pushed from behind. I think this man was the same person who, in the beginning of the event, stood up boldly when Wakabayashi asked "No one here has never listened to the radio, right?"  to the audience. Wakabayashi found him and asked "What brings you here?" and he replied "JR." He was wearing the uniform of the national baseball team of Japan, so I remembered him. I think he was just seeking attention, but it was really scary. Instead of remembering the funny scenes, I keep recalling that man's smiling face. I woke up at 3 a.m., really looking forward to it, but because of this person, I couldn't enjoy the second half as much. When it gets released on Blu-ray, I hope they cut that part out if possible.
