アメリカの貨物列車を初めて見た時は驚いた。日本のものとは全然違う。(1) 長い。数分見続けても最後尾は来ない。(2) 遅い。自転車と同じくらい。数分見続けても最後尾は来ない。(3) 落書きだらけ。箱型の貨物車には落書きがびっしりである。なぜか、石油かガスのタンク車両には少ない。(4) ディーゼル。全く電化されていない。 (5) 途中で止まっている。ターミナルでも何でもない、線路の途中で止まっている。夏の暑い日も冬の寒い日もずっと止まっている。半日か1日は平気で止まっている。 かなりなんでやねんである。

(3) Covered in Graffiti: The boxcar-style freight cars are entirely covered in graffiti. For some reason, there's less on tank cars carrying oil or gas. (4) Diesel-Powered: They are entirely diesel-powered, with no electrification. (5) Stopping Midway: They stop midway, not at a terminal or station, just in the middle of the tracks. Whether it's a scorching summer day or a freezing winter one, they can stay stationary for half a day or even a full day. I don’t get it.
